Board member for Clean Clothes Campaign / Schone Kleren Campagne

Note: this is a voluntary (unpaid) position.

Due to the departure of a board member, we are looking for a candidate with a broad organizational background for the board of the Clean Clothes Campaign / Clean Clothes Campaign. International experience is a plus, preferably gained at a non-profit or semi-profit organization.

The organisation

CCC / SKC Foundation is dedicated to improving working conditions and empowering workers in the global garment and sportswear industries. We do this by campaigning and lobbying for binding regulations for companies, and binding agreements between trade unions and clothing brands, of which the "Bangladesh Safety Accord" is an example.

The foundation has existed for almost 30 years and has a special structure: there is no hierarchy, decisions are made on the basis of consensus, and everyone has the same salary.

The organizational structure consists of three units: the International Office of the global CCC network, the SKC team, focused on the Netherlands, and Support (ICT, finance, HR, Office Management).

It employs 25 people, three of whom work from a Brussels office. The organizational budget is approximately three million euros. The global network includes more than 200 organizations and trade unions.

The unpaid board has decision-making powers in the areas of finance and personnel and, on other matters, follows the network's substantive and policy choices that are determined during the five-year global meetings.

The enthusiasm of the employees for their work and the commitment to the textile workers are great; the work is never finished. A challenge lies in controlling the workload.

Board member CCC / Schone Kleren Campagne

The board of CCC / SKC consists of five members (four women and one man). Each member has an area of ​​focus: finance, fundraising, marketing, HR, and legal and general affairs. A place will be available on the latter portfolio from 1 January 2021. The board strives for a wider diversity in its composition and welcomes candidates who complement the current team.


  1. Attending board meetings (4 to 6 times a year)
  2. Possibly prepare meeting documents
  3. Constructive critical input on submitted discussion documents
  4. Take minutes approximately twice a year and prepare minutes (rotating minutes secretary)

The time required for this board position strongly depends on the circumstances. In total, the maximum expenditure during a calendar year is 55 hours.

  • 4-6 meetings per year on Wednesday evenings, usually lasting 2.5 hours
  • Preparation time for these meetings is approximately 5 hours at a time
  • Ad hoc tasks between meetings require an average of about 12 hours per year


The candidate we are looking for recognizes himself in the following points:

a) Affinity with the objective of the organization

b) Interest in legal topics

c) Connecting style of collaboration

d) Decisive

e) Knowledge of network organizations

f) Interest in dynamics and decision-making processes in a flat organization

g) Preferably a broad and relevant network

h) Administrative experience in the non-profit sector is a plus

i) Moderately active and passive command of the English and Dutch language
